Steve Goodman: Go Cubs Go 2010

Yup! This year, I swear this year! Yes Great Pumpkin its going to happen! Hmmmm, Ok, I forgot it is the Cubs:-)

Steve Goodman: Dying Cub Fans Request

I post this song every year for two reasons. First, I love the Cubs! How could you not love the lovable looser from the northside of Chicago. Second, Steve Goodman! As you know from my previous posts, Steve Goodman was a die hard Cubs fan, who unfortunately, was dying of cancer when this video was made. The sad irony of Steve and the Cubs, was that he died just days before the Cubs made it into the playoff for the first time in 40 years. Of course, the 85 Cubs lost to the Padres in 5 games, after blowing out the Padres in the first two. It was one of the most painful three days of baseball that I remember. Much worse than Bartman! God Bless Barman, but the Cubs choked away the Florida game, and Alou was never going to catch that ball Bartman or no Bartman.

Steve Goodman: A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request

This is a repost, but I love Steve Goodman, and his Cubs songs. Goodman died not long after this video was shot, and unfortunately just before the Cubs made the playoff for the first time in 40 years.

Steve Goodman: Go Cubs Go!

This is my yearly tradition of posting the late great Steve Goodman's ode to the Chicago Cubs. Not sure who makes these slide shows of the cub players every year, but as they say hope springs eternal, and with the Cubs it sure seems like forever! 101 years since the Cubs have won a World Series, and 64 years since the Cubs have been in a world series! The Cubs and the blues go hand in hand, and the last two years have been painfull watching my beloved Cubs get to the playofffs only to get swept out in the first round. ARGH!!! At least on the positivie note the Cubs have played great the last two years to get to the playoffs. Plus Pat Hughes and Ron Santo are great on the radio.

Steve Goodman: Dying Cub Fans Last Request

WATCH THIS NOW!!! Who knows when Youtube will yank this. ACK!!!

This is a great song recorded by Steve Goodman just months before he died, and unfortunately he died just before the Cubs made it to the playoff for the first time since 1945. As a Cub fan and a Steve Goodman fan I find this song very melancholy, and sad, but hopeful. Plus it is a nice little blues song. Legend has it that Steve Goodman's ashes were actually buried at home plate, but I am not sure if that is true, but it would be a great story.

Steve Goodman: Go Cubs Go!

Yup, I know I am tempting fate posting anything about the Cubs, but perhaps this is the year that the goat is buried:-) Besides Steve Goodman rocks! Goodman's song Go Cubs Go, has become an anthem after the Chicago Cubs win at home. People stick around after the game to sing the song. I know a lot of people hate the cubs especially in St Louis, and Milwaukee, but how can you hate Steve Goodman! He was an incredible performer and song writer. He wrote some of the most iconic songs of the 70s such as You've Never Even Called Me by My Name, and City Of New Orleans, and one of my favorite The Dying Cub Fans Last Request. So as a life long Cub fan I hate to jinx them, but as Sweet Lou says their no such thing as curses:-)

Go Cubs Go!!!

Steve Goodman: Red Red Robin

Steve Goodman doing an old, old, classic blues/ragtime song. You know it may not be technically the best ever version, but you can't help buy smile when this guy performs. He one of those performers who gave his all on every song, and you have to appreciate that, and the crowd certainly did in this performance. BTW, that is Arlo Guthrie doing the intro!

Steve Goodman: Go Cubs Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In honor the Cubs getting within 5 1/2 games of first place, and the all star break I have a video of the late great Steve Goodman's song Go Cubs Go. Although it is a collection of pictures of the 2007 Cubs that someone made on Youtube, the song is Steve Goodman. Enjoy!!!

Update

I have noticed a ton of traffic to this video. I thought you might like this Steve Goodman Cubs video as well. A Dying Cub Fans Last Request. A very cool song, from a very cool man.
