IBSC 19 Bad Boys of the Blues

Hey Everyone, well, Greenwich mean time not central daylights saving time is what Podbean goes by:-)   So I kinda of figured as such, but hey, you get the show early tonight!   tonights show is the bad boys of the blues. This is my current Blues band.  Raw blues at its best LIVE!!!   These are from two recordings at the Hull Ave.  One was from the Sunday night jam and the other from the Women In Blues Show two.  Both recorded by Lee Bell, with the exception of one song Baby Don't Do It, which was recorded at the Ingersoll Tap.  This is my band so I sing half the songs, the other half are by the Legendary Jon East.  Jon is a great jump, blues and rockabilly guitar player.  I have played with Jon off and on since 1990.  Joining us on bass guitar is Norman Sue. Norm has played with many bands and different styles.  He is a professional musician of the highest caliber.  He mostly know locally for playing Tango, but he also played with Link Ray.  On drums is Scotty Hartung of Scotty and the Wingtips.  Scotty is the heart of the band.  He is a drummer who can move a crowd. Probably the best dance drummer in town.  Next week should be the first new show since 2003.  If you are in town come join us!!!

Iowa Blues Showcase 17

Hey everyone!!!!!   Episode 17 is on the air featuring Roy Cashmen and Jeff Baker.  Roy lived briefly in Iowa and was recorded several times by the Iowa Blues showcase.  I did a google search for him and found that at least up to around 2008 he was still playing guitar.  If you know him let him know he is on the air worldwide on our podcast!!!!!   Jeff is currently playing with the El Dorados which is an Alt Country band in Des Moines.  Unlike bro country, the El Dorados play rough and tumble old time country with a twang.  Jeff now plays bass, but back in the day he was a guitar slinger.

Taylor Hicks LIVE!!!!

Its been awhile since I have posted some Taylor Hicks!   Hey Soul Patrol hows it's going!  I am always grateful when Taylor plays the blues.  Things are tough right now and even on the local level it is hard to convince bar owners to hire blues bands.  With people like Taylor out there playing the blues gives me hope.  If Taylor is in your area you need to see him.  The man is a true hero of soul and blues. Thanks for keeping the blues alive!!!!

Podcast number 3!!!!

Wow!!!  Thanks everyone who has been listening to the Iowa Blues Showcase.  We are currently in tenth on PodOmatic, which is our current host.  Not sure where we are on ITunes, but this is exciting!  Episode three features Jimmy Pryor, the Midnite cowboy!   Des Moines legendary performer who lived, dressed, and sang the blues!   This was a great show from August 1999 recorded on a 4 track Fostex.  It still sounds pretty good considering that it was from a 17 year old cassette tape!!   I did work on the EQ because the second set was way too loud.  Sounds great though!   BTW, it is available on ITunes podcasts for those of you who use Ipad, or Ipods.

Iowa Blues Showcase Podcast

So a lot of changes here at the Blues Historian.  First the radio station has been long gone.  Live 365 either went out of business, or was sold to someone else, and bye bye Iowa blues on internet radio.  However, one of my long term goals is finally coming true, and that is the variety and blues show the Iowa Blues Showcase is finally going to be a real thing.  Technology has come a long way since the early 2000s when I was trying to get a local blues radio program on the air.   So many struggles, and trying to please program directors, sound men, engineers, etc, etc, etc,   There was just so many gate keepers that it was impossible to get everything lined up to get a show on the air.  However, now technology has made it easier and easier to produce and publish music online.  Especially the growth of Podcasting, much like everything else in the music business, the middle men have been taken out and the artists can pretty much do what they please.  Yet, the problem with freedom is that you have a ton of choices, and boy is the field crowded!  YIKES!!!!!

The nice thing is that the Iowa Blues Showcase doesn't have to start from scratch since long time readers of the blog know about it, and even though I have been a lazy blues historian lately, this blog amazingly still pulls in visitors daily.  Most days about 100 of you are digging through the archives, and just two days ago 250 of you just showed up for no reason.  Thanks to you this decrepit blog still functions.  For the next few days I will be working on updating and fixing issues with the blog.  I will also try to delete posts that have no content.  (which will be hard considering there is several thousand posts)  Finally I will add new content including the return of the Iowa Blues Showcase!

That link above is your ticket to the podcast.  through this month it will be archived shows that you probably never have listened to, or if you did you were one of the few who caught it on the old Iowa Blues Showcase radio show on Live 365.   In July we start recording new shows so you definitely want to subscribe to the new podcast.

BTW, the show will be recorded live once a month.  I will let you know the time and place so if you are interested in performing, or attending let me know by commenting, or emailing me.

I look forward to finally getting this old blog back up and running.  I know, I have promised it before, but I finally have a lot to write about the blues again, and hey its time to get thing started.
