Blues Beatles - A Hard Days Night (Live) 2017

I have talked a lot about the Blues Beatles on the podcast.  While I can't play them on the podcast, I can post their video here!   You would think that blues and Beatles wouldn't work, but obviously it does!  Of course, if you think about it how much the Beatles were influenced by R&B and early rock and roll, it makes sense that you can bluesify the Beatles:-)

The Beatles: I Dig A Pony, Get Back

The very end of the movie Let It Be, with two great songs, I Dig A Pony by John, and Get Back by Paul.  A fitting ending to a great band.  Not the official last recordings of the band, because later that summer they would record Abby Road, which was the project that the Beatles worked on together. However, the film Let It Be would come out in 1970, and the Beatles were done by then.

I am a former Beatle freak.  I have every album, and usually a original Capital, and Apple version as well.  Back in the 90s I found the blues and sort of left the Beatles behind, but for some reason lately I have really missed them.  I realized that I don't even have all their albums on CD!  I also realized a few weeks ago that in September John Lennon would have been 70 years old!  YIKES!  Also sadly he has been gone for almost 30 years.  George has been gone for 9 years.  Time certainly flies way too quickly.

Anyway I hope you enjoy this video which is over 40 years old!

Paul McCartney: Wonderful Christmas Time

One of the nice thing about the Beatles is that every Christmas they created some cool songs and recordings for their fans. Paul in 1979 made this song, with his band Wings in that spirit. Of course John Lennon also made a Christmas recording in 1972. Happy Xmas the War Is Over.

Beatles: Birthday

Shock and awe! Do you remember pong?? I had a pong machine. Played Asteroid, and Space Invaders in the arcade, but video games have come a long, long, way! I wonder when they are going to make a blues (rockband) game:-)

The only problem I have with these games, is that it is harder to play them, then to really play the instruments! YIKES!!

The Beatles: Revolution

In honor of the release of the Beatles Rockband game I am posting some Beatles videos. This is a cool clip of the Beatles playing John's call for NON VIOLENT revolution. It is also cool because it is subtitled in Spanish for all of my readers in Central and South America.

I must admit that I don't plan on buying the game, but the animations of the band are amazing! I watched a guy play George's Here Comes The Sun. The animation had the Beatles from 1969 playing in a golden field with all sorts of colorful birds and butterflies flying around. It looked great.

The Beatles: Long Tall Sally

Live film of the Beatles playing in Australia doing a classic R&B song by Little Richard. A couple of interesting notes, first watch Ringo, Dude is really slamming on the drums. It is really hard to tell from recordings, or from film clips the importance of Ringo, but he really pounded on those skins. Trust me it makes a difference when the drummer is pounding out a backbeat like that, plus he had no amplification for those drums so just to hear him amid all the screaming is amazing.

Second there is a scary part near the end of the song, where some guy comes running on the stage. He shakes Lennon's hand, but you could see John was startled at the guy running towards him. considering what happeneed to John it is very eerie.

Taylor Hicks: Don't Let Me Down

Taylor Hicks doing John Lennon's Don't Let Me Down. Back when John was with a little band from Liverpool.

John Lennon: Give Peace A Chance

I am just having too much fun tonight! God bless you John, I know you probably didn't believe in the big guy, but at least the Church forgave you for saying you were bigger than Jesus!:-) I also realize why I have been in a Beatle funk this month. John died 28 years ago this month! I hate to say this, but it seems like yesterday. I remember where I was when it happened I was sleeping in bed and a friend called me up to tell me the news. It was devastating. I was numb for months. At that time I was a huge Beatle freak. I lived, and breathed the Beatles, and John was my favortie. I liked John because he was working class like me, and I thought that if a guy like him could make it, so could I. However, being a working class hero proved to be pretty elusive in the long run. Yet, I like to think that I do my small part to make the world a better place.

Beatles: Sgt Pepper

Last year I posted this video in tribute to the 40th anniversary of Sgt Pepper. Unfortunately the video disappeared, but I found it again:-) I love the idea that music can cure the ills of the world. In this video from the movie Yellow Submarine the Beatles take on the blue meanies! Pretty cool and psychedelic!!!

Beatles: Get Back

I found it again! I wonder how long it will last! I love the concert on the rooftop from Let It Be. The Beatles getting out and performing live for the last time, with Billy Preston playing Keyboards. What is unfortunate is that this movie which was released on VHS, has never been released on DVD that I know of. I have looked for years, but I have never seen it. I know that those who control the myth of the Beatles probably don't want it released because it is a painful piece of history to watch, but it is also amazing how the music comes together at the end! (pun intended:-)

Beatles: Dont Let Me Down

I am feeling nostalgic tonight. The moment I first saw Let It Be, I wanted to play a concert on a roof top. The movie itself is pretty painful to watch. It is almost like watching a train wreck. It is really about the break up of the Beatles. As a fan of the band, and of all four of the guys in the band it is almost a sicking feeling watching them fight and bicker. But, when they get up on the rooftop and put aside all their differences the magic happens once again! It makes it worth while to sit through all of that angst just to see them making great music again. I suppose in away this is typical of almost every band. I think as musicians we fail to realize the happiness we bring to our fans, and when one band breaks up and another forms, it truly is like starting over. When we do that we disappoint those who followed the previous bands. Of course, as a fan we need to realize that a band is like a moment in time. It is there, it is beautiful, and then it is gone. Lucky for us we live in a time of audio and video recording so we can at least relive those moments. So enjoy the Beatles on the roof top one more time.

Ryan sent me this video of Taylor Hicks covering Don't Let Me Down. Enjoy!

The Rutles: Get Up And Go

Keeping with the theme of parody. Here are the Rutles recreating the famous rooftop concert of the Beatles in 1969. If you ever get a chance to see All You Need Is Cash, the Beatle parody by the Rutles, you need to watch it. Great music, and great laughs. John Belushi makes a brief appearance as the Rutles second manager, and does a typical over the top Belushi scene. priceless:-) It also features more Saturday Night Live stars, Monty Python stars, and George Harrison as a reporter!!:-)

Connie Lush And Blues Shouter

I think this is a Liverpool England band. It is part interview and part music. They are playing at the Cavern Club. I don't know if it is the same Cavern Club that the Beatles played in, or a new incarnation of that incredible bar, that saw the birth of the Beatles. either way, I think this is a pretty cool video, and it is nice to see that the Cavern Club lives on.

Sgt Peppers 40 Years Old Today

It was 40 years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play! Amazingly it has been 40 years since the Beatles released Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. While not blues in any way, it is nonetheless one of the most important albums released during the rock era. Although many Beatlemaniacs, might argue that the British release of Revolver is the best, and a few might pick Abby Road, or the White Album. I think Sgt. Pepper for what it represents of the fashion, music, recreational drug use and the early hopefulness of the mid 60s is what makes this album such an historical beacon. I also feel that Pepper helped open up popular music, and popular taste into many other areas of music. It also made other musicians try to duplicate the psychedelic sounds. With the blues Muddy did Electric Mud, and Howling Wolf also dabbled in it. Hendrix probably was the best to take the blues and cross it with psychedelic music. So happy birthday to Sgt Pepper!

Strange But True!

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't saw it myself. One of the greatest Soul, Blues, and Rock & Roll sax players in the history of popular music King Curtis opening for the Beatles! As an old Beatle freak, I find it amazing and interesting. I know the Beatles knew who King Curtis was, but I wonder if they even had the time to talk to him. This was the big show at Shea Stadium in 1965 at the height of Beatlemania. I believe they flew the Beatles in by Helicopter, and drove them out in an armored car! In fact, in those days the Beatles were so big that they could only play for only about 20-30 minutes for their own safety! You also kinda of wonder if people even heard any of the show. The crowds were so freaking huge, and loud, and the Beatles were only using little Vox amps. Boy those were the days:-)

Ray Charles Let It Be

Wow This is cool Ray Charles covering the Beatles Let It Be. This is very nice, it has some nice Gospel touches to it. Very Cool.
