The legendary Provine Little Hatch from Kansas City, was one of the leading harp players of his day. Certainly due to Hatch, and his famous jam sessions, Kansas City became home to some of the best harp players in the midwest. Such players like Mo Paul, Lee McBee, and John Paul Drum. I was lucky to have jammed a couple of times with Hatch at a couple of blues jams. It was always fun, but much like John Lee Hooker, you had to listen to Hatch, because he played songs his way! He was one of the greats.

Artist Of The Week: Gary Primich
Artist of the week, is the late Gary Primich. The photo above shows Gary with the great Hubert Sumlin. Some of the videos that may pop up in the Google Video box, are probably the same ones I posted earlier, but this way they will stay on the front page for the rest of the week. As always you can find the videos on the left side of the blog.

Gary Primich update
No official word on cause of death of Gary Primich, but both his ex-wife, and a former band mate have said they think he died of a drug overdose. He was only 49 years old. Now I know that the young people who read this board think that 49 is over the hill, but in blues years, he was a very young man. You really don't hit your stride in the blues until you get to 40. From reading one of Primichs band mates blog, it seems that Gary had gotten into some of the hard stuff. It is unfortunate if it is true that we have lost another great bluesman to drugs and or, alcohol. The list of fallen blues performers to either or both is long and tragic. Regardless of why he died, I think it is important that we remember how he lived, and the music he left behind. The one thing about the blues is that it lives on. Primich left a large body of work that can be listened too, or watched for years to come. So he may have left us early, but he at least left us with a great gift of his blues.

James Harmon: Ooh Baby
James Harmon is one of the wild ones. I had the pleasure to open for him a couple of times, and he was always a blast to talk to. I also learned a lot about the music business from listening to him deal with bar owners:-) If you get a chance to check out James Harmon, you won't be sorry.
