CD Release Party!!!!

Big gig alert!! I am having a CD release party on Saturday, September 20th, at the Gathering Place in Cherokee Iowa. The show starts at 8pm, and as always five dollar donations are accepted at the door. Plus Yesterday and Today, my first CD is for sale for 15 bucks! I hope if you are in the region of NW Iowa, SE South Dakota, SW Minnesota, and NE Nebraska, you will come on out to our party. It should be a great time, and it will give you a preview of the Cherokee Jazz and Blues Fest. Also we are going on sabbatical until November while Don goes out into the field to harvest. (yup we have a real farmer in the band!!!) So this will be your last chance to see us, and buy the cd for at least 6 weeks!!! YIKES!!! So you better catch us now, or it will be a long wait!!

January Madness, Or Why I Haven't Posted Much This Month!

We started out on NYE playing at the Gathering place. We had a small crowd but they had a great time.

If it wasn't a gig then it was class, and I still have two more gigs and a week more of classes before I get my nights back!!! It has been a wild couple of weeks and looks to be at least one more great week. Monday night I play piano for Bob Dorr at Buena Vista University, then on Friday after, my class ends at BV, I will rush over to Cherokee and the Gathering Place for our first Third Friday Live! show.

I also wanted to thank the Chronicle Times of Cherokee, the Sioux City Journal, and the Pilot Tribune, and Storm Lake Times, of Storm Lake for there great stories on our band and my blues class.

Hopefully I can return to full time blogging after next week!

Cherokee Jazz And Blues Festival

KMEG, the local NBC affliate in Sioux City Iowa, has a very very very short blurb about the festival. it is sooooooooooooooooooo short that I will just paste and copy it here:-)

Cherokee, Iowa was the home of the Jazz and Blues Festival for the eighth time this weekend. The three day event is Northwest Iowa's premier winter music festival.

The festival brings people, students, and musicians together through performances, clinics, and lots of fun times. Jim Adamson said, "I've seen a lot of smiles and people just raving about the quality of the music and variety of styles of music."

"It's moving to be a musician when you've got this many people out here rocking out with you," added Jimmy Davis, one of the musicians who performed during the festival.

I highlighted in Blues the qoute from Jimmy Davis since he plays guitar for my band:-) Way to go Jimmy!!!!

I also highlighted Jim Adamson's quote since he is the guy that put the band together. Thanks Jim!!!!

Thanks to the good people of Cherokee Iowa I have a new photo of the band! The latest installment of the Tom Gary Blues Band features, Paul Sleezer on Drums, Jim Davis on Guitar, Myself on Piano, and playing the Doghouse, Don Demers. These guys have a ton of talent and like my other bands they can really sing! It has been a lot of fun working with these guys and putting together a show band. Check out the top of the blog for the blue print which should let you know when the next show is coming up!

Cool Stuff Going On In Cherokee Iowa!!

Cherokee Iowa may be a small town in NW Iowa, but they have more cool things going on than towns twice their size. A lot of it is due to a handful of very cool people who want to bring art and culture to the area. They work really hard to make sure everything happens, and their hard work is paying off. Here is some of the things coming up in Cherokee for the next few months from the Gathering Place Website. BTW, I am playing a concert there on Nov 17!!!

Jamming At The Gathering Place

Here is a pic, from my friend Curt's myspace page, of the old blues professor playing piano with my friends at the Gathering Place in Cherokee. Once a month they have a jam on Friday nights. It is a cool old historic building located in downtown Cherokee Iowa. Cherokee is going through sort of a Renaissance, as a handful of buildings are going through repairs. Most towns this size are dying out in Iowa, but Cherokee seems to have found a new life with the arts. They are a very art friendly town, and promote a very cool Jazz and Blues fest in January.
