Bob Dorr And The Blue Band Update

Well certainly we're all glad and thankful that the 5 panties for $25.50 special at Vickie's Place is back. That makes 'em $5.10 a piece. Do they REALLY need that extra dime per panty? There's really not much fabric they'd have to cut out to save that dime. On the other hand there's just not that much fabric in the first place. So what's the point? If there's that little to it, why not save the $5 and not wear panties at all? Jimminey Christmas, what's Aunt Dolores and my in-laws gonna think about THAT?...
No, we didn't get that House Party invitation, so there's no Blue Band gig this week. Checker & The Bluetones play at The Hub for the Friday Geeezer gig. Might see ya there. The Blue Band DOES play next Friday's (3/4) Geeezer Gig at The Hub, so fer sure I'll see ya then...
I'm going to do another live edition of the Backtracks rock'n'roll history radio show on Saturday night. This often evolves into a RequestFest. You can just reply to this email if you have an advance request (I'm more likely to find and play your song if you pass it along in advance) or use the toll free number during the show (7-10p CST) 1-800-772-2440, ext. 5. I answer all the calls myself, so feel free to call just to hi. Do remember that the show deals exclusively in songs that are at least 25 years old (1986 is the cut off year)...
I got to do an hour long phone interview with Bobby Whitlock this week. Whitlock was the co-lead singer (with Eric Clapton) and organ player in Derek & The Dominos. He co-wrote 6 of the 13 songs on the Layla album. He was an original member of Delaney & Bonnie and Friends. He played on George Harrison's All Things Must Pass album. The 8-9pm hour of NEXT week's Backtracks (3/5) will feature that conversation and music. There will be a short "teaser" segment of the interview on this week's live show. Find the frequency in your area or listen via streamed audio at www.iowapublicradio.org
Sunday, at the 5 Sullivan Bros. Convention Center in Waterloo, is the annual Beers To You And Gourmet Too fundraiser for the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. (remember when we got to open for Robert Cray on the Gallagher-Bluedorn Main Stage?) A night of entertainment by The Blue Band (and a collection of 12 CDs/DVDs/Vinyl records) is part of the silent auction. In years past we have done this with The Friends of KUNI at their wine tasting event, but we haven't been invited by Iowa Public Radio to be part of that event this year, so we'll see if we can raise a little money for this cool arts performance center on the UNI campus. More information on this great beer and food tasting event (there was some divine cheese CAKE there last year) can be found at www.beerstoyou.org. When you're there be sure to make a bid on the Blue Band package and maybe we'll finally play that basement or garage party at your place!...
There were no additions to the 30th Anniversary Tour this week. We were just a little too expensive for the couple of inquiries (have you seen the price of gasoline lately? YIKES!) Please continue to tell local festival committees, corporate party planners, casino entertainment buyers, and local nightclubs about us. We've still got some prime dates open for the summer (including our actual 30th Birthday weekend and the 4th of July) and we'll see yas on the Blue Highway, rub yer washboard tie, always eat dessert first (especially when there's CAKE) remember to change your underwear and don't forget we love you.
