Highway 61 Blues Festival

This weekend in Mississippi on the legendary blues highway 61, there will be a the Highway 61 blues Fest. The fest will take place in Leland Mississippi, and is the 8 year of this festivals existence. Also according to the article in the Delta Democrat Times, there are 40 blues festivals in Mississippi each year! Like I had said in a previous post Mississippi is really interested in promoting tourism to Mississippi by using the blues. What I like about this festival, is that it is local groups. I am always particular to local musicians playing the blues. Every area has its own flavor of blues, and only a local band truly captures that sound. Nothing wrong with national acts, but they all tend to sound the same after awhile. They are too polished, and a lot of them play too loud, and their solos last for hours. Unless you are truly gifted, like Stevie Ray Vaughn, who could play nothing but guitar and I would be happy, but most guys once they have gone around a couple of times they have shown me everything they have, and the rest of the night is boring. So if you are down in the delta this weekend, check this fest out! I promise that you will hear some real down home blues, done right, and some good down home cooking as well!
