SUMMERTIME SOUL
with
DWIGHT & NICOLE

Saturday, July 10th,
7:30 pm and 10:00 pm
Regattabar

"A tour de force that demands much wider success...
poignant... hard driving... and heavenly."
- Steve Morse - Boston Globe

“Magnificent!”
- Dr. Maya Angelou
(Cambridge, MA)  A perfect summer night not to be missed with emerging soul/blues/jazz artists Dwight & Nicole. Saturday July 10th, 7:30 pm and 10 pm. Tickets: $18.00. Regattabar at the Charles Hotel, One Bennett Street, Cambridge. For tickets and information: 617-661-5000 or log onto www.regattabarjazz.com.

Fresh off their momentous CD-release concert at the historic Somerville Theater, Dwight & Nicole return to the area for an evening of joyous music at the Regattabar in Harvard Square. Expect a show stopping mix of fun-in-the-summertime classics by Smokey Robinson, Martha & The Vandellas, and the Drifters, as well as songs from the acclaimed new album !Signs.

Backed by an all-star band [to be announced by early July], and in such an intimate setting, this is definitely a show to catch.

Bio

Dwight & Nicole (Dwight Ritcher and Nicole Nelson) are a breath of gritty, soulful and rollicking fresh air. Having already performed all over the world with such a variety of legendary artists as Dr. John, Carly Simon, Buddy Guy, and Dr. Maya Angelou, they have the ability to bring a very big presence to any stage, big or small. Both were born with mountains of musical talent including golden pipes that have been honed to fill rock clubs like NYC's Mercury Lounge as well as pin-drop theatres like Boston's Symphony Hall. Dwight & Nicole are a raw and beautiful sight to be seen, as well as a sound to be heard. Ritcher, a multi-instrumentalist, tastefully plays a Gibson Flying V guitar at most shows, running bass lines and finger-picking. When the mood strikes he plays crushing solos, reminiscent of Albert King in their grit and strength. Often, if the music calls for it, he sits at a piano or even behind a drum kit, adding to the texture of their set. Occasionally, Nelson, who builds rhythm by stomping, clapping and playing tambourine, will strap on the guitar, or sit at a piano; further revealing their versatility. With a string of sold out shows, and multiple local awards and nominations under their belt, it is just a matter of time before the rest of the nation catches on to what we in the Northeast have been saying all along. Blending deep rooted blues, soul, folk, and rock, Dwight & Nicole conjure old souls with their brand new classic sound. For more information and to listen to the new album, visit www.dwightandnicole.com

Special event features band and solo winners of the 2009 River City Ohio Blues Competition and CD Launch party for “Diamonds On the Desert Floor” by Long Tall Deb and the Drifter Kings.

COLUMBUS, OHIO December 29, 2009 –Award-winning Columbus act Long Tall Deb and the Drifter Kings have teamed up with Detroit bluesman Paul Miles for a special show at the Thirsty Ear Tavern in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday January 9, from 9:00pm- 1am. Tickets are $7 at the door.

This show will help to raise travel funds for both acts as they get ready to compete in the 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee at the end of January. Both acts won their respective band and solo categories at the 2009 River City Ohio Blues Competition held in Marietta, Ohio, this past February. Long Tall Deb and the Drifter Kings will also debut their CD “Diamonds on the Desert Floor” on this evening.

The show will open with a strong acoustic set by multiple Detroit Music Award winner Paul Miles. He will be followed in the second set by the dynamic four-piece electric blues act Long Tall Deb and the Drifter Kings. The closing set will feature the two acts together onstage.

LONG TALL DEB AND THE DRIFTER KINGS have crafted a delicious blend of blues and soul topped with the rich, soulful vocals of “Long Tall” Deb Landolt. Featuring bassist Melvin Powe, drummer Doug Oscard and guitarist Richey B, the band’s strong original music and dynamic performances are the reason many folks call them a group on the rise.
Their debut CD “Diamonds on the Desert Floor”, produced by Michael Hill, features eleven distinctive original songs that stand out from one to the next. What appeals is a well-crafted CD blending gutbucket rhythm and fermented blues.

PAUL MILES has self-produced seven albums of original blues music and is a highly respected performer on the Detroit blues scene today. As an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter, he has enjoyed numerous musical collaborations while also continuing his solo career. He has played all over the United States and in Germany, France and Switzerland where he played the Lucerne Festival for five consecutive seasons. His infectious musical style and trademark high pitched squeal is a delight and inspiration to people all over the world.

Stevie Ray And Albert King Live!!!!!!

A very cool reissue is coming from the fine folks at Stax. They are reissuing the Stevie Ray Vaughn, Albert King concert from 1983. This was a great show, and we all need to pick this disc up as soon as it hit the shelves.

Here is the press release

For immediate release:

On June 30, 2009, the legendary Stax Records label will reissue the digitally remastered version of In Session – the Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan 1983 live album that reached #1 on Billboard’s blues album chart, selling more than 300,000 units. The reissue includes three sets of liner notes by Fantasy and Stax Records’ Bill Belmont, and journalists Lee Hildebrand and Dan Forte.

Among blues guitarists and fans of the craft, Albert King was the master. Austin, Texas’ Stevie Ray Vaughan, 31 years King’s junior, exploded onto the scene in 1983, first as guitarist on David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” followed by his own smash hit “Pride and Joy.” When the two met onstage at Antone’s in 1973, they formed an ongoing friendship. This bond culminated with the December 1983 live recording titled In Session. This remastered version of the 1983 performance by two blues legends is the only known recording of them playing together.

In 1983, Delfeayo performed Gordon Jacob’s Trombone Concerto with the New Orleans Philharmonic and received the Outstanding Performance Award from the Jefferson Performing Arts Society for his presentation of Marcello’s Sonata #6.

Delfeayo attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music, majoring in both performance and audio production. He has since produced over 75 major-label recordings-several of which have received Grammy awards and nominations-including works by: Harry Connick, Jr., Marcus Roberts, Spike Lee, Ellis, Branford and Wynton Marsalis. His production skills earned a 3M Visionary Award in 1996 and a cover article for the industry source, Mix magazine in 1997.

As a trombonist, Delfeayo has toured internationally with legendary jazz artists Art Blakey, Abdullah Ibrahim, Elvin Jones, Slide Hampton and Max Roach, as well as touring with his own modern jazz ensemble. During a tour with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, he was filmed as part of the Ken Burns documentary,” Jazz.” A mainstay on the New Orleans modern jazz scene, he has released three solo albums to critical acclaim, Pontius Pilate’s Decision in 1992, Musashi in 1997, and Minions Dominion in September 2006. Along with late trombone master J.J. Johnson, several music reviewers have labeled Mr. Marsalis as one of the freshest modern voices on the instrument to arrive in the 90’s.

If you enjoy Jazz music you will LOVE this evening of music. The name says it all! Marsalis! Call the Pearson Lakes Art Center at 712-332-7013 or go to www.lakesart.org for tickets and information. Tickets are $20 for members, $24 for non-members and $12 for students. Dinner is an additional $18.95 and reservations are required by May 12th at 4pm.
