Bob Dorr And The Blue Band Update

Now THIS is gonna be "interesting". If you think tonight's (Fri) GEEEEZER Gig at The Hub (Bub) is gonna be the same ol' thing, then open your mind and picture this: The Chief needs to be at his job at the U of I hospitals, so John Rohlf will be the drummer. Mark's kidnapping continues. We've got the authorities looking into it, there have been rumored sightings in a blues bar in Ft. Myers Florida, but nothing confirmed. Muddy Watson has promised to drive up from Des Moines to be the bass player. And Al has been "asked" to play the President's Ball at Coe College (command performance for the trumpet prof) so our long-time friend Tom Barry (on loan from Checker & The Bluetones) will join Eddie in the horn section. (Eddie has been the primary sax guy for 10 months, giving him seniority status over half the band tonight!) But wait, there's more. I wasn't gonna sweat the loose, barely rehearsed, (if that) sound of the band and the limited play list, until I found out that the world famous Sheehy Sisters were planning on showing up! (and have promised to bring cupCAKEs) And then...add the fact that it's Bob Guthart's birthday party (rumor has it there will be a CAKE in the form of Ray Nitschke) (what's with all these rumors?) AND he will set his green guitar on fire and play it behind his head while simultaneously playing the trombone part on Wooly Bully (well, that's the rumor anyway) AND we'll be celebrating Sue Niles birthday (between Bob & Sue, that's a lotta candle power!) What's not to like, right Avis? Pizza by the slice, adult beverages, nice dance floor, home before the 10 o'clock news! The Hub, 4th & Main, Sparkle City USA. You've never heard/seen The Blue Band like this and probably will never again! We play 6-9:30p. Bring CAKE...
Not rumor, Fact: Next Saturday, Feb. 18 marks our return to The 503 (503 Estes St.) in Iowa Falls, 9-mid...
More cool facts: I have been invited to join the on-air fundraising team at Iowa Public Television for the Elvis '56 special that will air Tuesday Mar. 13, 6:30-8:00, during Festival 2012, thankyou, thankyouverymuch...Fact number 2: We have been invited to be part of The River Music Experience (Davenport) St. Patrick's Day Celebration. We play in the newly reconstructed Cafe, downstairs, 7-10p, Sat. March 17...AND...
This is so HUGE, it deserves it's own line: We have been invited to bring the Iowa Blues New Year's Eve Celebration back to the Hilton Garden Inn for 2012!! (this should quash all rumors that that event was moving) I would be interested in hearing your suggestions as to who you'd like to see/hear this year. Just respond to this email...
And speaking of responding to this email, I'm doing the Backtracks Rock'n'Roll History Show LIVE again Saturday night (7-10p) on Iowa Public Radio, let me know if there's something in particular you'd like to hear, remember the show deals exclusively in songs that are at least 25 years old. Or call during the program, I answer all the calls myself at 800-772-2440, ext. 5. Get the frequency in your area or listen via streamed audio at www.iowapublicradio.org Blue Avenue (Sun. 5-6:30p) continues our survey of Blues Music Award nominees (http://iowapublicradio.org/studio-one/blue-avenue/) and The Beatles Medley (Sun. 6:30-7:00) (http://iowapublicradio.org/studio-one/beatles-medley/) has a LOVEly theme for Valentine's Day...
Many have asked when I'm gonna get back into political rants in these notes. Since I stopped doing that, NO ONE has "unsubscribed" (I was losin' 3-5 a week there for awhile) so I'm gonna keep singin' the apolitical blues, but rumor has it, that could change any week now. The Republican race for their Presidential nominee is such splendid spectator sport, what more can I really say?...
The Wizzzzard of Wires (Phil Maass) is making all kinds of progress with the mixing/editing/producing/mastering of the B-day tapes. Then it's on to video editing. I have absolutely no idea what we're going to do with the finished performance tape, but I'll bet some of it turns up on the website before Memorial Day...
See yas on the Blue Highway (all 1.25 miles from my house to The Hub) rub yer washboard to a different sounding Blue Band this week, rumor has it that you're giving your love for Valentine's Day, for sure you already have ours...Bob Dorr & The Blue Band
