A lot of the Iowa State Fair has to do with traditions. I hope you can help keep the tradition alive. The Blue Band, same stage (first called Fairview, then Coors, then PBR, now AE/TV8) since 1985, Fri/Sat, 7 & 9pm. Bring the kids, bring the grandkids, bring funnelCAKES! We have played a lot of towns and cities in Iowa in our 30 year history. The Fair seems to be a gathering, in a kind of reunion atmosphere, of people from around the state and many ex-Iowans who plan their summer visit back to Ioway around joining us at The Fair. If you'd like a 40 minutes snapshot of what it's like with us at the Fair, try: http://www.theblueband.com/bluemusic.htm I simply cherish this opportunity and hope you can join us for the fun...
But before that, tune into KCCK-fm in Cedar Rapids later this morning (I think they said a little after 10am) for an interview I did with station manager Dennis Green, talking about anything from obscure Blue history to next Thursday's (8/25) Jazz Under The Stars concert that The Blue Band is part of in Noelridge Park in CR, we play 7-9pm. Find out more about the concert series or listen to the interview at www.kcck.org...
And speaking of radio shows, I have had many people ask if the one-hour special I did with Bobby Whitlock (Delaney & Bonnie & Friends; co-lead singer and songwriter in Derek & The Dominos with Eric Clapton) that originally aired in March, complete with lots of conversation we had on the phone (he said some "interesting" things about Delaney Bramlett, plus had an unexpected take on Duane Allman being part of Derek & The Dominos) would be re-airing this summer. The answer to that question is yes. It airs again Saturday night during the second hour (8-9pm) of the Backtracks rock'n'roll history show. Find more info on this week's shows at http://iowapublicradio.org/studio-one/backtracks/ or http://iowapublicradio.org/studio-one/blue-avenue/
Also next week, Sat. 8/27, has us at a cool town event, right along the Wapsi River, in Independence. It's a Brews and BBQ event that features a lot of Iowa micro-brews plus world beers. The food is good, entertainment starts early in the afternoon, Blue Band 5-9pm...
For the complete, current, tour schedule try: http://www.theblueband.com/cal.htm you'll notice that we have a lot of open dates in the late fall, please spread the word to company party planners, casinos, clubs, and neighborhood gatherings that we'd love to be part of this year's Holiday Festivities...
In addition to The Blue Band on Friday, the Fair has the Lovin' Spoonful on another free stage and on Saturday, Paul Revere & The Raiders. I LOVED both of those bands. Maybe we can take the Hang Glider between the two shows! Go ahead, you really want to try deep fried butter on a stick (actually, I watched a guy eat one of those last Sunday, he said it tasted like a VERY buttery cinnamon roll) See yas at THE FAIR!!
See ya on the Blue (Ribbon) Highway, bring your zydeco tie, it'd be SO COOL to get 50 people from around the state playing the washboard together, try the cheeseCAKE on a stick, and know that we love you, even more than a Pork Chop on a stick (and that's a lot!) Bob Dorr & The Blue Band
