Blues is the
roots of all American music and this year's festival lineup will include
a variety of blues musicians from around the country. More and more
people are getting into the Blues. That's why we're predicting another
successful festival. We expect our shows to be very well attended, and
the restaurants, bars and shops in town to be full all weekend.
Our festival lineup kicks off on Friday night at 8PM with Mikey Jr.
from Philadelphia PA He's a great harp player, a killer showman, and
he's got a real hot band. Crowd's never keep to their seats when Mikey
Jr. & The Stone Cold Blues are on the stage. mikeyjunior.com.
Headlining Friday night at 9:45 PM will be the Lionel Young Blues Band. Young
is a high energy performer with a bent for the blues. The Lionel Young
Band, winners of numerous awards for best in and around the Colorado
region, have won the 2011 International Blues Challenge (IBC) band
competition. Added to Lionel's victory at the 2008 IBC in the solo-duo
category, that makes Lionel Young the first double champion in the
history of the IBC. lionelyoung.net
Then, Saturday afternoon at 12:15 PM, alumni from the BJFM
"Blues in The Schools"
project at Marietta Middle School, now at Marietta High School will
perform as "Schools That Rock" under the direction of Mark Doebrich.
Doebrich has been involved with "Blues in The Schools" since its
beginning in Marietta, and has been extremely vital to its local
success.
At 1PM on Saturday, the winners of the 20th Annual "River City Blues Competition" will take the stage for a 1-hour set. The Tee Dee Young Band
from Lexington, Kentucky, in addition to performing at our festival
will be representing BJFM at the International Blues Challenge in
Memphis early next year. "It's everybody's chance to see the very best
from the competition," said John Gifford, Competition Director for BJFM.
Tee Dee, while playing his own unique style of the blues
combined with his dynamic stage presence, exciting harmony, and energy
will put you in the mood for dancing! teedeeyoung.com
At 2:15 PM, Saturday afternoon's traditional acoustic blues slot in the program brings Doug MacLeod. Aside
from being one of the finest guitar players in the business, MacLeod
really connects with his audience. His sets are more than music. They
are "homegrown lessons" in life and love. MacLeod is one of the finest
songwriters, storytellers and performers in the blues. In a world
intoxicated with electric-everything MacLeod is preserving a lost art. doug-macleod.com
At 3:45 PM. CeCe Teneal
will give her all to the audience. Her shows aren't merely
entertainment - they are an experience. The music transcends musical and
generational barriers. Dubbed "The Voice of Neo-Blues," Teneal wins
accolades from fans and media. She channels a full circumspection of
the African-American experience with blues roots, contemporary neo
melodies and the soul that is reminiscent of the late Mahalia Jackson
and Etta James. ceceteneal.com
8 PM. Born and raised in Galveston Texas, Hamilton Loomis
is an undeniably blues based artist escalating into a mixed bag of
modern blues, modern funk, and slick soul. His funky rhythms, booming
horns, powerful yet refined harmonica and soulful vocals coupled with
his stellar guitar work bridges the gap between generations of
music-lovers. hamiltonloomis.com
10 PM.
A uniquely perfect mix of entertainment, blues and professional
musicianship; Damon Fowler, Victor Wainwright and J.P. Soars, are "Southern Hospitality."
A dramatic leap for three of the blues world's most dynamic performers,
Southern Hospitality is a confident yet unforced triumph of family and
friends, offering a cohesive vision: an idyllic, musical world in which
the echoes of so many great traditions reside; Delta blues, Memphis
soul, Boogie-Woogie and Funky grooves organically flowing together,
blending with an entirely original, modern sensibility. piedmonttalent.com
