South Skunk Blues Society Update
Meeting Monday Oct. 1st: On another note we will be having a South Skunk meeting this coming Monday October 1st at the Newton VFW at 6:30 PM. We will be discussing the need to find a replacement for our Treasurer Jennifer Howell. Jennifer has experienced major computer problems and as a result finds she must resign. We are now in the process of recruiting a replacement for this position on the Board so if you are interested in joining our efforts in this capacity please let me know. Jennifer has been our Treasurer for several years and will be missed in this role. She has indicated she will continue on as a volunteer helping with our merchandise table at the Bowl. Thanks allot Jennifer for all you have done to keep the Blues alive here in Skunkland. Also at Mondays meeting we will be discussing upcoming plans for the fall and winter activities (shows, Blues under Blue Roof, Blues in the Schools... If you have some time Monday evening please come on over to the VFW and lend some input. I am going to add the membership form to this email so that if you know of some one that is due for renewal or you think might want to join you can share with them. Membership in the South Skunk Blues Society makes a great Halloween gift.
Happy Birthday South Skunk Blues Society: This Sunday is the 20th birthday of the South Skunk Blues Society. Thinking back over these past years I got to reminiscing so I decided to bring back some more blasts from the past so to speak. So I decided to send some photos of posters from our history. I am attaching the Honeyboy Turner Show poster from back at the Terrace in 1995. We have been using the Showprint posters since the beginning of the South Skunk Blues Society. I also have attached a photo of the very first South Skunk show poster: Randy Vincent and Prime Cut, back on November 27 and 28 1992. I wonder who all that is reading this was at that show. If you have some memories of the Skunks first 20 years and want to share them send me an email and I will send it out in my next update. Well I am getting nostalgic so when I got to looking I found a poster from the 1st Bowlful of Blues...It is hard to stop when I get to looking back at our history. And then I found one for “The Janey’s... I could go on but I thought since Bryce Janey is going to come play for us next Friday at the Speakeasy and his dad, Billie Lee Janey is going to be inducted into the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame in a couple weeks I should include a copy of that old poster. So time flies when you got the blues and now we are 20 years old; that’s nearly legal (which incidentally will be our theme for the next year). Thanks to Elaine Mattingly for coming up with such a catchy theme.
