This is just gonna be the facts, mammals, I plan on catching the 3am
Black Friday special at Target, so this'll need to be a quickie (don't
ya love it when that happens?!)...
WE GOT A GIG TODAY!! It's an awareness/fundraiser for Cedar Rapids' New
Bohemian Arts Organization and the fact that they already own a radio
station/frequency and now need to get 'er on the air! Maybe you're the
next Casey Kasem or Dick Biondi or Clyde Clifford or Bob DeForest or
Howard Stern. Find out how to be a part of New Bo Radio! So while you're
shopping in Cedar Rapids, take a break, have a late lunch, chase it
with a little peppermint, have a few dances, buy some inexpensive Blue
Band merch for people on your shopping list (buy any CD or DVD for the
regular price and get any other CD/DVD FREE!) and spread the True Blue
cheer! Parlor City Pub & Eatery, 1125 3rd St. SE, we play 3-7pm.
Yes, you read correctly, we start at 3pm! Because of his new M-F,
5pm-1:30am, University Hospitals job, this could be one of The Chief's
last gigs for awhile, catch him while you can!...
Next Friday, Dec. 2, we are part of Main St. Waterloo's big Christmas
Tree Lighting and Holiday party. We play in The Black's Building from
5-8:30p. The event is free, open to the public and all ages welcome.
Santa is expected to be checking who's naughty or nice, so be on your
best/worst behavior. At the moment, we have absolutely NO idea who will
play drums with us. Kind of exciting in a bizarre kind of TRAIN WRECK
way isn't it? Maybe Santa will bring us an early Christmas present. A
gorgeous blonde that can do the double shuffle would look so good
sitting behind the drum kit with us on stage! Dennis is already working
on this...
Speaking of not having a fulltime drummer, we've all been so busy that
no one has really had any time to start making calls to some of the very
talented drummers who have voiced interest in at least helping us out
in the short term. Playing with a different drummer every night is
difficult and cuts down everybody's fun. We'd like to find someone who
is capable, free to travel up to a week at a stretch (we haven't done
that in a couple of years, but if the opportunity came by, I'd really
like to pursue that) can play all the beats (we are the
blues/soul/rockabilly/reggae/rhythm band after all) has a great sense of
humor, has a body that allows him/her to help schlep all the gear (the
older we get, the more important that aspect gets!) lives close enough
to Cedar Falls to make rehearsing a time or two per week a possibility,
and, the hard part, is willing to play for the little money that we
make. As you can see, we've got quite the challenge ahead of us to find
someone with all the qualifications. Please keep spreading the word. We
might struggle at times in the coming weeks with the substitutes, but I
guarantee, we won't suck! You keep comin' out and we'll continue to
persevere. It's too late to stop now...
All of my weekend radio shows are new this week. Backtracks, the
rock'n'roll history show, (Sat. 7-10p) is the annual Thanksgiving
Left-overs show and will include all 18+ minutes of Arlo Guthrie's
classic tale of a Thanksgiving Day trip to the garbage dump gone bad
(Alice's Restaurant) and about an hour's worth of leftover requests from
last week's live show. Blue Avenue (Sun. 5-6:30p) is a combination of
cool blues Xmas songs and some of my favorite CDs of the year and The
Beatles Medley (Sun. 6:30-7p) is ALL Beatle Xmas! I still have not
received a signed contract renewal offer from Iowa Public Radio for
2012, so catch these shows while you can!...
I am told that New Year's Eve tickets are selling a little better than
last year. Who knows how many more of these multi-band, Iowa Blues
extravaganzas there will be. It's another stellar line-up, don't miss it
if you can! More info: http://www.theblueband.com/newyear.htm New
Year's Eve is just 5 weeks from tomorrow!...
Thanks for all the inquiries about Carolyn's dad's triple by-pass
recovery. He's out of the hospital, back in his apartment, walking a
little farther every day, but has yet to ask for his snowblower to be
returned. My biggest worry now is over the health of my Aunt Dolores.
She is recovering from surgery for some internal blockage. I'm hoping
for a full recovery. Good wishes for her are much appreciated...
Well, that's gotta be it. I gotta get in the frame of mind to battle
those Black Friday shopping veterans for all the cool stuff at the 3am
special. See ya on The Blue Highway (be careful on the roads the rest of
this weekend, the Iowa Highway Patrol is out in full force), rub yer
washboard tie to the tune of Wipe Out (get it? We need a drummer? Wipe
Out? Oh never mind) I am told that CAKE can soothe anxieties brought on
by having one less drummer than we need, and always know that even
WITHOUT a drummer, the beat goes on and we love you. Bob Dorr & The
Blue Band
