Because The Blue Band is playing a private function this week, (there
will be wedding CAKE!) I had mentioned that there probably wouldn't be a
Blue Note this week. But I seem to have developed some kind of
excessive/compulsive addiction to writing notes at 3am on Thurs
night/Friday morning. It won't take long. I just need a little bit...
You had asked me to let you know when the rerun of my Backtracks Horn
Band radio special was going to happen (insert your own Jr. High joke
about being HORNY) Well, that happens this Saturday night, (9/24),
7-10pm on your favorite Iowa Public Radio station. Get more info on the
show and find the frequency in your area:
http://iowapublicradio.org/studio-one/backtracks/ The Sunday evening
(5-6:30pm) blues show (Blue Avenue) is brand new and includes live
recordings, made by The Blue Band's longtime technical advisor, Phil
Maass, at the 2010 Bluesmore celebration in Cedar Rapids of multi
instrumentalist Deanna Bogart. Blue Avenue is immediately followed by
The Beatles Medley, this week, the Beatles as a blues band...
Remember that next Friday's show (9/30) is in the beautiful
Campbell/Steele art gallery. But it's small. Tickets are only $5, but
there's only 135 of them. This show sold out in advance last time we
were there. It's a lot like being at a house concert, if you had
fantastic art all over the house! More info:

(WHAT?, October?, next week? YIKES!) is the annual Anniversary/Harvest
party at Tabor Home Winery. If summer has to end, this is the perfect
way to do it. It's the Tabor's 15th anniversary, The Blue Band's 30th
anniversary, and this end of summer party has become a tradition for all
of us. Beautiful setting, wine, food, wine, great company, wine,
cheese, wine, cheeseCAKE, wine, tours of the vineyard, wine, dancing,
wine and did I mention this is at a vineyard so there will be WINE? Yes,
lots of wine, but no whining. More info on the event can be found at
http://www.taborhomewinery.com/
It has been a fabulous 30th anniversary summer for The Blue Band. Thank
you for helping us get this far. The booking calendar is looking a
little thin starting in mid October (got Halloween weekend open, we
could have a devil of a time at your haunted house) Keep spreadin' the
True Blue word to company party planners, your favorite casinos (last
week was fun in LARCHWOOD!) nightclubs, festival committees (yes, next
summer's town festivals are being planned now!) or your family holiday
gatherings. I had hoped to give you some personal insight as to the band
persevering into decade #4, but that'll have to be for another week,
cuz I'm not writin' a Blue Note this week! (denial is a sure sign of
addiction)...
See ya on The Blue Highway, use yer damn turn signals (and get off the
damn phone) (and you kids get offa my lawn!) rub yer washboard tie to
the tune of How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away?, and always know
we love you. (and your CAKES) Bob Dorr & The Blue Band
