What? A gig? Already? I haven't recovered from The Fair yet (3 days of Fair-going plus the two nights of playing wore me out) But wait, there's more! Like it says on the Post-A-Note Page: After 30 years it's hard to find some "first times", so help us celebrate our virgin appearance at the KCCK-fm Jazz Under The Stars Concert Series, TONIGHT (Thurs) in Noelridge Park, Cedar Rapids, 7-9pm. I'm really looking forward to Labor Day weekend's list of shows, starting Fri. Sept. 2nd in Peoria at the Illinois Blues Fest. I think it's been about 10 years since our last appearance in the P town. This is gonna be fun, don't miss it if you can! We're the opening day band for this multi-day festival and just play an hour, 7-8pm. Then Sat. Sept. 3, we get to return to The Grape Stomp at Park Farm Winery in Bankston (just a little NE of Farley, the girlhood hometown of the world famous Sheehy sisters) we play 4-7pm, and yes, you can literally stomp grapes at this harvest time festival. And Sun. the 4th, has the Grandaddy of them all as far as picturesque beer garden settings, right on the bank of The Wapsie River, at FB & Co in Waubeek. We're on the bill with another long running, Iowa R & R Hall of Fame band, The Mississippi Band. I'll have more on all these shows next week...
Jeff and I are going to be part of a show that Iowa Public Television is producing for the 10th anniversary of 9/11. They're coming to my garage in Cedar Falls to record a couple minutes of us playing Wayfairing Stranger. (next Thursday at 10:30 IN THE MORNING!!) (YIKES!) I really haven't cleaned that garage studio/rehearsal space in about 15 years. I started in on it yesterday. (DOUBLE YIKES!)...
This week's radio shows are "Best Of" programs. The promo for Saturday night's Backtracks show (7-10p) says: A reprise of the "organ rock" special that originally aired 12/4/10 and features only songs with an organ player in the band. Booker T. & The MGs, The Young Rascals, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Zombies, The Doors, and that's just in the first hour! From the Hammond B3 to the Farfisa mini electronic organ, every song has an organ player! The promo for Sunday evening's Blue Avenue show (5-6:30p) says: The newest releases by Tracy Nelson, Shawn Pittman, and Seasick Steve; Exclusive IPR recordings of Louisiana zydeco man C. J. Chenier at the Iowa Arts Festival in Iowa City, 2008; and some blues on vinyl by Big Mama Thornton and Gatemouth Brown. And this week's Sun. Night Beatles medley (6:30-7p) The Beatles play live from Stockholm Sweden, to New York City, to Toronto, to the Hollywood Bowl. They were FABulous live!
