- RIP Sam Butera 8/17/1927-6/3/2009: Sam Butera, best known as Louis Prima's rippin' R & B saxophonist, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 in Las Vegas. He was 81. Sam Butera's energetic sax style and gregarious personality enabled the ruckus raising, jump-and-jive shenanigans of Prima's fun-loving stage show.
