Their list of tour dates reads like a who's who of live music venues located all over the world: Bradfordville Blues Club, Tallahassee, Florida, Daytona Beach Blues Festival, Daytona Beach, Florida, Le Soubock, Cauville, FRANCE, Le Croque Notes, Seclin, FRANCE, Salle de Fetes, Crisnee, BELGIUM, Herzog Ernst, Celle, GERMANY, The Legendary Blues Cruise, St. John Blues Festival, St. John, US Virgin Islands, Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, Telluride, CO, Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival (The Biscuit), Helena, AR, Blind Willies, Atlanta, GA, The Slippery Noodle, Indianapolis, IN - you get the idea, these guys are BIG TIME.
The Sean Carney Band is coming back to Marietta for a special show on Friday, October 22 at The Adelphia, the beautiful new music hall located inside The Galleyrestaurant. The SCB has been in town before to play for The Blues, Jazz & Folk Music Society's River City Blues Festival, but this is the first opportunity to see them in an up-close and personal night club atmosphere like The Adelphia. Show time is 9:30PM and admission is 10-dollars.
Even though SBC calls Columbus, OH home, the trio is hardly ever there, since they won The International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis, TN back in 2007. Since then, they've pretty much been "on the road" to places like listed above, and more we can't even think of. You might say SCB has been "kinda busy."
The Sean Carney Band features Albert King Awardwinner (for best guitar) Sean Carney on guitar and vocals, longtime Carney friend, business partner and co-producer Eric Blume on drums and vocals, and original bassman Steve Perakis on the upright bass. That's it - just a trio. But you won't be thinking "just a trio" when you hear them. Their music is solid, tight and powerful. Beyond great musical talent, the three have a unique style blues fans find quite entertaining. You'll see why SCB is sought after by blues venues and blues festivals all over the world.
In 2010, The Sean Carney Band will perform in twelve countries, including debut concerts in Mexico and Czech Republic. Other highlights of 2010 include "Seven Nights To Blues" in Lille, France, "The Piazza Blues Festival" in Belinzona, Switzerland, and "The Calgary International Blues Festival "in Canada.
You see, The Sean Carney Band is more than just "The Best Band in Columbus," which they have won, or the winner of The International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. They just might be one of the best blues bands in the world.

The festival will be held at The Mid Ohio Valley Players (MOVP) Theatre, directly across from the .
Colony.
With the support of filmmakers and movie-going patrons, we will have the Colony Theatre as a permanent venue very soon.

Jeff Ellis & Bud Carroll at The Grill
A real One-Two Punch of West Virginia's most revered bands.Singer/Songwriter Jeff Ellis has been pursuing his career in music intgh between stints with the US Army Reserves, where Ellis has completed two
overseas tours of duty. Ellis released his fourth solo CD "The Forgetting Place" on NY's NewSong Recordings in March while on a two week leave from
Iraq. He returned in August to hit the road with guitarist Bud Carroll and his backing band The Southern Souls, who can be heard backing Ellis on his
previous two releases. "The Forgetting Place" was recorded in Athens, OH with renowned producer Eddie Ashworth (Sublime, Pennywise), as was the
debut full-length by Bud Carroll & the Southern Souls - "Wasted Words &Best Intentions." Ellis has made two solo appearances on Mountain Stage
since 2007 and last February Bud Carroll & the Southern Souls debuted on the NPR program for the first time, alongside Sam Bush, The Bottle Rockets
and Lucero.
On their most recent musical tour Ellis and Carroll have appeared at the Purple Fiddle in Thomas, WV and The Basement in Nashville, TN, as well as
appearances at the Aunt Jenny Festival in Logan and the recent Huntington Music & Arts Festival at Ritter Park in Huntington. The Forgetting Place

"Chef Joe" is Back!!10-Questions for "Chef Joe"
I thought it might be fun to find out what "Chef Joe" has been up to before returning to Marietta as the chef at the new Galley/Adelphia.
An Interview by the Voice.
1. I've always known you as simply "Chef Joe." Spell your last name for me. Joe Rovinsky
#2: When I moved back here in the early nineties, you were the chef at The Lafayette Hotel - back when things were good there. You ran a tight ship and the food was good there - The Gun Room was the finest restaurant in Marietta. Tell us a little about that gig...
That was a great gig and I have an immense love for the Lafayette. I was Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Director there for 4 great years. As you may recall I was very involved in The Jazz and Blues Festival there. One of my favorite memories from those days was escorting Koko Taylor through the kitchen and onto the Stage at a Jazz and Blues Fest Event. She held my hand the whole time and as we passed the line in the kitchen she pulled me to a stop and jokingly said; "I'm Hungry, Let's Eat, They'll Wait for Us!" Of course when we entered the Grand Ballroom the crowd just went nuts!
#3: Tell us what you've been up to since those "glory days" of The Lafayette...
I've been living the good life as I always try to do. I opened several restaurants here in Marietta after I left the hotel. I left Marietta in 2001 for San Francisco. I spent three years there in my favorite city in the world. I then spent seven years in Chicago, another great food town!
#4: "Chef Joe," Tell us what brought you back to our little corner of the world?
Many things brought me back home; the charm of this city, family and not least The galley and especially the Adelphia Room. I took one look at the new Adelphia Room and knew I had to be a part of the excitement!
#5: How did you get hooked up with the folks at The Galley?
As long as I've been in Marietta I have had an acquaintanceship with John Lehman. At the time he owned the old Dos Rios Restaurant on Second Street (Now Tampico). We shared ideas about the restaurant business and especially our visions for Marietta. We share a great love for this city. I am glad to finally have the opportunity to work with John.
#6: Tell us your "concept" for The Galley - what are you trying to do there?
Our concept is a simple yet important one. Serve the best quality food in the land! We have a small army of very talented chefs and a bunch of dedicated front of the house staff to make every visit to The Galley and The Adelphia memorable.
#7: How's things going so far?
Things are going great! We constantly have something exciting to work on with the addition of The Adelphia to the mix. We have been having a great time pairing our specials with the entertainment. For instance we will have another world class menu for The Bob Thompson Unit show on December 2nd! We're now planning our New Years Eve program with The Fossils and we'll have some fantastic dinner specials and packages for the evening! #8: Why should people come to The Galley for something to eat? What makes it different from any other restaurant in Marietta?
The Food is world class and ever changing. Our daily specials are always a great way to sample what's fresh and delicious. Our atmosphere is second to none. We're a detail oriented business and we take that charge very seriously. Attention to Every Detail is our Mantra!
#9: What's your favorite thing on your menu at The Galley?
Wow, it would be hard to name just one favorite. Our steaks are perfection on a plate! We have a great mix of burgers and sandwiches. You have not lived until you've tried our brand new Chili Cheeseburger. Same with our out of this world Wasabi Tuna. The better question might be what I eat the most of? Our desserts are out of sight. Our culinary school trained pastry chef makes everyone of our desserts from scratch. Nothing comes from a box or comes in frozen. There's no substitute for a scratch made dessert!
#10: Are you glad you came back?
I'm, ecstatic! I am having a great time being part of a well run eating and entertainment venue that you could match up to any venue in the nation! |

Washington State Community College will kick off its 12th season of the Evergreen Arts and Humanities Series with a concert and workshop by the great Grammy Award-nominated fingerstyle guitarist and Windham Hill recording artist Alex de Grassi on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the college. Following an afternoon workshop, the concert will be at 8:00PM in the Graham Auditorium on the campus. Tickets for the concert are $15 .

Colgate Country Showdown OCT 23
It's like our River City Ohio Blues Competition -- but with a lot more twang. The Northeastern Regional Finals ofThe Colgate Country Showdown -- America's largest country music talent search -- will take place SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23 at Marietta High School auditorium. Our very own "Cobbler John" Bolen will be one of the judges and he'll be judging six finalists from all over the region. The winner goes on to compete in the national finals in Nashville, TN. Cobbler says these kids are pretty good and that the show is well-produced. Admission is only $5. For more information, contact local radio station FROGGY99.

SCOTS Rocks Adelphia
Great Show...Great Crowd...Great Night
The hugely popular Southern Culture On The Skids (SCOTS) brought their show -- complete with the infamous flying fried chicken -- to the new Adelphia Music Hall on Tuesday night. If you consider yourself a fan of entertaining live music and you weren't there -- you missed one of the best touring shows in the country -- shame on you!

Fourth Annual Appalachian Blues Competition
The West Virginia Blues Society held its fourth annual competition on October 2nd at Tomahawks Smokehouse & Saloon in St. Albans, WV. It was a well attended competition and was not to be missed.
There was a very nice variety of solo/duo and band acts from a four state area including, of course, West Virginia as well as Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
It was a relaxed atmosphere in which John Gifford ("Giff") supplied the back line, Tim Lemmons was the sound man, Dusty Scott (the man to have at any Blues venue) was taking the photos, and Ed Shafer was MC.
The five judges were from a wide spectrum of the Blues world and were, in no particular order, Don Vecchio (Vice-president of the Western, PA Blues Society), Ray Hensley (musician and guitar instructor), Paula Stewart (of the Huntington Harmonica Club), Mike Powers (from Yellow Dog records), and Miss Ella - Sister to the Blues.
There was so much wonderful talent and, like all Blues competitions, there were no losers as all of the acts gained valuable experience and made new contacts. The winners were announced and presented their plaques and checks by President of the WVBS Jack Rice at the end of the competition. These winners were as follows:
Youth Division Hunter Wolfe & ARE Solo/Duo Division Izzy & Chris Band Division 1st place J.C. & The Revival 2nd place Ray Fuller & the Bluesrockers
The jam session that followed was participated in by several musicians and allowed each of them to "strut their stuff". Look for the winners at the IBC in Memphis this coming February!

BluesBANDS and SOLO/DUO blues acts will compete for cash prizes and BJFMS sponsorship to the Blues Foundation's InternationalBlues Challenge (IBC) held every year in Memphis, Tennessee.

The first-place winner will receive $1,000. dollars in cash and BJFMS sponsorship to the International Blues Challenge (IBC) to be held in February, 2012 in Memphis. The second place winner will receive $200 in cash and third-place winner will receive $100 in cash. NO geographic restrictions apply. Serious blues musicians from anywhere and everywhere are encouraged to apply and participate. This is your opportunity to gain valuable exposure to record labels, A&R representatives, blues industry professionals and festival promoters capable of providing real career advancement for a serious blues musician. About The Blues, Jazz & Folk Music Society The Blues, Jazz & Folk Music Society is a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 all-volunteer "force" of music enthusiasts on a mission to enhance the appreciation of American Roots Music in the Mid-Ohio Valley and we do it by presenting concerts, workshops, conferences, and a forum for education and development in the schools.
The BJFM Society celebrates and perpetuates blues and roots music as a traditional, evolutionary, and uniquely American art form. During the grant period, we will continue to present live music in genres not normally available in a small town like ours, to educate and expose our audiences to music new and unfamiliar to many of them. Our goal is to keep blues, jazz and roots music alive in our area.
With the help of volunteers from our membership, and an 8-member board of directors, the BJFM Society will continue to produce and present our "core events" plus other shows throughout the year as the opportunity presents itself.
