Blues, Brews & BBQ Cruise Rolls on River

Rollin’ on the river on a Fall Saturday night with the area’s best blues band and
some tasty BBQ with all the trimming’s might just be more fun than most people are
used to in one night.
The pleasure of every sense and nerve feeling’ good, all at one time, doesn’t come
around that often.

If you’re looking for the last big fling of the season, this might be it: dinner
and a dance while cruisin’ on the river to the blues onboard one of Ruble’s
Sternwheelers. Some people just know how to have a good time.

The “Blues, Brews & BBQ Cruise” will happen on Saturday, October 18, 2008, boarding
at Point Park in Parkersburg at 730pm, departing at 8pm and returning at 11pm.
Tickets are $25 per person, and dinner includes pulled-pork BBQ, cornbread with
honey butter, red beans and rice, Memphis slaw and pecan bars. Area favorites,
“The Blues Cannibals” will perform and there will be a cash bar serving all legal
beverages.

“The Blues Cannibals” have been around since 1996, and if you haven’t heard them
lately, you’re due for another listen. After years of playing in rock bands,
“The Cannibals” were formed by Dennis Tarman and John Gifford from Cambridge, Ohio,
two of the area’s most able guitar player/singers. Add a tight rhythm section of
Mikes: Mike Lewis on the fretless bass and Mike McGuire on percussion and throw in
the soulful harmonica licks of Chuck “Reeds” Mapes, and you’ve got yourself a blues
band offering up a tasty mix of heart-throbbin’ toe-tappin’ Chicago blues as well
as original modern blues. Not only did the band finish in the top-five for 6-years
in a row at “The River City Ohio Blues Competition” in Marietta a few years back,
but also was chosen to open for the late, great Bo Diddley at Cleveland’s famous
House of Blues.

“The “Blues, Brews & BBQ Cruise” will be bluesin’, dancing and BBQ at its best,
under the stars in the cool, crisp Fall air,” said Peggy Noyes, caterer and
organizer of the event. “We hope live music fans will come out and enjoy an evening
on the river,” Noyes said.

For tickets or more details, contact Dave Roberts at Rubles Sternwheelers
740-423-7268 or Peggy Noyes at 304-210-7732. All passengers must be 21 or older
with a photo ID.
