Bob Dorr And The Blue Band Update

My buddy Bob Dorr is heading off to the Iowa State Fair to put on another one of his legendary fair shows. If you have never seen Bob and the band at the fair, then you don't know what the Iowa State Fair is all about!! Bob is an institution at the fair. One year the fair board had the stupidity to not book him, and needless to say they never did that again!!! A ton of bad press and tons of letters to the fairboard made them see the light:-) So get to the fair and check out one of Iowa's best Blues, soul, funk, and rock and roll bands!!!

Holy Schamoly, I haven't been a Jets fan since Broadway Joe left for The Rams!...

Why does the line that Arlo Guthrie says in Alice's Restaurant that goes "it was just another example of typical American Blind justice and there wasn't gonna be any twenty seven, 8 X 10 color glossy photographs with the circles and arrows and a paragraph on each one explainin' what each one was, to be used as evidence against us" keep goin' thru my head?...

Oooops, most everyone on this list is WAY too young to have even an inkling of what I'm talking about in those first two paragraphs, so let's get to the important stuff: It's kind of summer vacation week for us, playing just Saturday night for a couple of hours (7-9pm) as the entertainment before the Cedar Trails Festival Night Ride, in Gateway Park, right here in Sparkle City USA (Cedar Falls). I think this will be the first event in Gateway Park since the June Flooding. This is a multi-generational gathering sponsored by the Hearst Center For The Arts. Come early for the band, bring your bike light and join hundreds on the Night Ride. We'll have the full horn section with us (Heath and Al) so bring yer bike and boogie!...

In case you haven't checked in with the Post A Blue Note page, the news flash of the week is that Iowa Public Television is re-airing our 25th Anniversary Concert Wed. Aug. 13 at 8pm! We're talkin' Prime Time here! Thank you, Friends of IPTV! (www.iptv.org)

And then, here it comes, next Friday and Saturday (Aug. 15 and 16) The Iowa State Fair, AE/TV 8 stage, two shows nightly, 7 and 9pm. It's simply the coolest thing that happens to us every year. 27 years of Blue Band fans from all over the country converge for a giant reunion/family kind of feeling. Let's face it, the State Fair IS the BIG TIME to us! Be part of it with us...

Speaking of the Fair, I'm heading out there as a Fair-Goer for the next couple of days. I hear that batter dipped, deep fried, pineapple on a stick is the new health food offering for the year...

The first football team I ever loved was The Green Bay Packers with Bart Starr and Paul Hornung. Then Broadway Joe Namath went to The Jets and all of a sudden, I was a Jets fan, only to return to some dismal Packer teams after Namath suffered thru a season with The Rams. It's been fun to be a Packer fan since Bret Favre has been the quarterback. In the last 3 weeks, I've realized I'm a bigger Farve fan than Packer fan. Let's go Jets! (again)...

Oh yeah, typical American justice. I forgot to tell you in last week's good news/bad news Blue Note that I had received my notice to be part of the Black Hawk County Jury Pool for this week. I called in Monday night to find that, out of 4 different jury pool groups, MINE was the only one "chosen". So I had to get my sorry butt to the courthouse by 8:30am (haven't these people heard of NIGHT court?!) and sit on those hard wood pews that only Catholics could really appreciate, (honestly, how "fair and impartial" can one be with 4.5 hours of sleep and a chronic bad back that was sitting on some 18th century torture bench for two hours?!) until the judge came in (here come da' judge, here come da judge) (another reference that you're probably too young to get) at nearly 10am and said that all the cases had been settled and we all had satisfied our civic obligation for another two years. So I missed out on hosting another IPR talk show (Talk @ 12) but made $30 + millage (I have a Prius, so I'm sure I made a HUGE amount on that 18 mile round trip) + $2 for parking. I'm rich! And I didn't have to look at the twenty seven, 8 X 10 color glossy photographs! Actually, I think I'd make a pretty good juror, except for anyone being tried for making U-Turns in front of the CF Post Office or NOT USING THEIR DAMN TURN SIGNALS, in which case, I think they should be immediately put in stocks and publicly humiliated...

There's a 50/50 chance that there will not be a Blue Note next week (hey, I'm on vacation) See ya on the Blue Highway (all roads lead to the Butter Cow) I'm hoping at least 50 people show up at The Fair with their zydeco ties (a washboard tie orchestra?) I'm in search of the illusive CAKE ON A STICK (no, the fried Twinkie on a stick does NOT qualify) and always remember, we love you! Bob Dorr & The Blue Band
